What size art goes above a sofa or bed?

A common rule of thumb is art about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it, hung so the bottom sits roughly 8 to 10 inches above the furniture. Over a long sofa that usually means one large piece or a group of smaller pieces that together fill that width.

Quick guide

  1. Measure the furniture width. Aim for art (or a group of pieces, including the gaps) about two-thirds of that.
  2. Leave roughly 8 to 10 inches between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the art.
  3. Too small looks lost; too wide looks crowded. When in doubt, go a size up.

Sizes OnOff Tiles come in

Square from 8 × 8 to 36 × 36 inches, and portrait or landscape from 8 × 12 to 24 × 36 inches. Each product page shows the sizes that fit that piece’s shape.

See it before you buy

Every product page lets you preview the piece in a room at the size you pick, so you can compare sizes before you order. Because the art swaps on the same BaseTile, you can also change your mind later without rehanging anything.

Common questions

Can I group several smaller pieces instead?

Yes. A row or grid of matching sizes works well over a long sofa. Treat the whole group as one piece when you measure.

Does the same rule work over a bed?

Yes. Use the width of the headboard instead of the sofa.

What if I pick the wrong size?

You have 30 days to swap for different art, and the return shipping on a swap is on us. See our returns page for the details.
